From 2012 to 2015, Zelger mainly participated in U18 and U20 competitions in the cross-country Alpine Cup. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships 2015 in Almaty , he finished 38th in the 10 km freestyle and 34th place in the sprint. In September 2015, he became the junior world champion in roller skiing over 10 km in Val di Fiemme . In December 2015 he started in Prémanon in adult races in the Alpine Cup and came in 19th place over 15 km freestyle and ninth place over 15 km classic. At the U23 World Championships in 2016 in Râșnov , he achieved 44th place over 15 km classic, 33rd place in sprint and 31st place over 15 km freestyle.
