Stefano Zamagni (born January 4, 1943 in Rimini ) is an Italian economist and president of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences .

Life

Zamagni studied at the Catholic University of Milan . From 1966 to 1969 he was a lecturer there. From 1973 to 1979 he was a full professor at the University of Parma . Since 1979 he has been Professor of Economics at the University of Bologna . From 1985 to 1993 he was director of the Department of Economics, from 1993 to 1996 Dean of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Bologna.

From 1985 to 2007 he was a permanent visiting professor at the Luigi Bocconi University of Economics . Since 1983 the Adjunct Professor at the Bologna Center of the Johns Hopkins University . He was visiting professor of economics at Deakin University .

He has been married to Vera Negri since 1968 and has two daughters.

Act

Pope Francis appointed him on November 9, 2013 as a full member of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences . He is a Fellow of the Academy of Sciences of Milan, the Academy of Sciences of Bologna and the Academy of Sciences of Modena, and a Fellow of the New York Academy of Sciences , New York. He is a member of the Pontifical Foundation Centesimus Annus Pro Pontifice (CAPP) .

From 1989 to 1999 he was an executive member of the International Economic Association and from 1999 to 2007 President of the NGO International Catholic Migration Committee (ICMC), Geneva. He is a member of the Harvard University Human Development and Capability Association . Since 2007 he has been President of the Agenzia per le Onlus , the Italian commission for the non-profit sector and non-governmental organizations.

Stefano Zamagni has published numerous works. Member of the scientific committee of various business journals and reviews.

He has received several awards for his scientific work and commitment, such as the McDonnel Distinguished Scholar in Helsinki (1992), Paul Harris Fellow by Rotary International (1995), the St. Vincent Economics Prize of the Aosta Valley Regional Government (1989), the Capri Economics Prize of the Association of the Development of Social Sciences (1996), Golden Sigismondo Prize of the City of Rimini (1997), Gold Medal of the International Center Pio Manzu (1998), Honorary Citizenship of the Argentine cities of Rosario and Mar del Plata, Gold Medal of the Italian Savings Banks (2005).

In 2007 he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed Knight of the Order of Gregorius .

Pope Francis appointed him President of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences on March 27, 2019.
