Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences ( Latin : Pontificia Academia Scientiarum Socialium PASS) is a Pontifical Academy . It has many methods in common with the practices of academies around the world, but has the specific role of establishing dialogue with the Church. Your scientific activities should be organized and focused in such a way that this dialogue is promoted in the best possible way.

history

Pope John Paul II founded the academy on January 1, 1994 with the motu proprio “Socalium scientiarum”. The aim was to promote the study and progress of the social sciences , especially economics , sociology , law and political science . The Academy offers the Church, through appropriate dialogue, the opportunity to use the research results in the development of its social teaching and reflects on the application of this teaching in society today. The Academy, which is autonomous, has a close relationship with the Pontifical Council for Justice and Peace .

The seat of the academy is in the Casino di Pio IV in the heart of the Vatican Gardens , along with that of its sister academy , the Pontifical Academy of Sciences .

Presidency

The Argentine Curia Bishop Marcelo Sánchez Sorondo has been the Chancellor of the two academies since 1998 .
