Roland Minnerath (born November 27, 1946 in Saargemünd , Moselle department ) is a French clergyman and Roman Catholic Archbishop of Dijon .

Life

Roland Minnerath studied history at the Sorbonne in Paris, administrative sciences at the University of Paris IX-Dauphine, and Catholic theology and canon law at the Catholic Theological Faculty of the University of Strasbourg and at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome. He attended the Almo Collegio Capranica and was ordained a priest on June 25, 1978 . After two more years of study at the Pontifical Academy in Rome, he entered the diplomatic service of St. Chair . He received doctorates in theology, canon law, and administrative sciences and holds a master's degree in history.

From 1980 to 1985 he was secretary, then auditor at the Nunciature in Brasília , and later in Bonn . Pope John Paul II awarded him the honorary title of chaplain of His Holiness ( Monsignor ) on April 10, 1981 . From 1985 to 1988 he worked in the Vatican State Secretariat .

From 1989 to 2004 he was Professor of Church History and Legal Relationships between Church and State and he took over the Chair of Church History at the Catholic Faculty of the University of Strasbourg. He has been a member of the Pontifical Academy of Social Sciences since 1992 and a member of the International Theological Commission since 1997 . He is also a member of the mixed committee for theological dialogue between Catholics and Orthodox Christians.

Roland Minnerath was appointed Archbishop of Dijon on February 13, 2004; the episcopal ordination received his Michel Louis Coloni , retired archbishop of Dijon, on 21 March 2004; Co- consecrators were Joseph Doré PSS , Archbishop of Strasbourg , and Pierre Raffin OP , Bishop of Metz . In 2005 he was appointed Special Secretary of the Synod of Bishops . In 2007 he became a Knight of the Legion of Honor .

On December 7, 2012, Roland Minnerath was appointed Grand Prior of the French Lieutenancy of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem by Cardinal Grand Master Edwin Frederick O'Brien .

He has published numerous books and articles on the history of the Church, particularly the beginnings of Christianity and the relationship between state and church, particularly social doctrine and social ethics .

On January 31, 2015, he celebrated the Karlsamt in Frankfurt a. M.

Pope Francis appointed him a member of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith on May 6, 2015 .
