Jacques Perrier

Jacques Perrier (born December 4, 1936 in Paris ) is Bishop Emeritus of Tarbes and Lourdes .

Life

After receiving a degree in classical philology from the Sorbonne University , he was ordained a priest on March 21, 1964 for the Archdiocese of Paris . He began his priestly ministry in the student pastoral care, especially at the Sorbonne. In 1979 he became pastor of the parish of Saint-Michel des Batignolles , after which he was sent as pastor to the parish of St. Ferdinand des Ternes . From 1983 to 1990 he was the parish priest of the Notre-Dame de Paris cathedral . During this time he also performed duties at the diocesan level: he was the first director of Radio Notre-Dame .

On 22 June 1990 appointed him Pope John Paul II. To Coadjutor Bishop of Chartres . The Archbishop of Paris, Jean-Marie Cardinal Lustiger , ordained him episcopal on September 16 of the same year. On April 6, 1991, Perrier became Bishop of Chartres. Finally, on May 20, 1997, he was appointed coadjutor of Tarbes and Lourdes, and on January 16, 1998, bishop there. Within the French Bishops' Conference he was a member of the Standing Committee for Information and Communication and chaired the Committee “Studies and Projects”.

Pope Benedict XVI On February 12, 2012 he accepted his resignation due to reasons of age and appointed him apostolic administrator of the diocese until the inauguration ( enthronement ) of his successor (March 25, 2012) .

Trivia

As Bishop of Tarbes and Lourdes, Bishop Perrier welcomed two Popes to Lourdes:

  • Pope John Paul II during the pilgrimage on August 15, 2004
  • Pope Benedict XVI came in September 2008 on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the apparitions of Mary.
