Bernard-Nicolas Jean-Marie Aubertin OCist (born September 9, 1944 in Épinal ) is a French religious and emeritus Roman Catholic Archbishop of Tours .

Life

Bernard-Nicolas Aubertin joined the Order of the White Fathers in 1963, took vows on July 11, 1971 and was ordained a priest on May 21, 1972 . In 1982 he entered the Cistercian community of the Lérins Monastery and made perpetual profession on September 7, 1982 . In the monastery he became prior and 1989 abbot until 1992. Since 1990 he has been a member of the Generalate of the Cistercian Order in Rome.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of Chartres on August 4, 1998 . He was ordained bishop by the Archbishop of Bourges , Pierre Plateau , on September 20 of the same year; Co- consecrators were Joseph Madec , Bishop of Fréjus-Toulon , and Juan José Omella Omella , Bishop of Barbastro-Monzón . As a motto he chose In vinculo pacis ( In the connectedness of peace ). He was appointed Archbishop of Tours on June 23, 2005, and was introduced to the office on September 4 of the same year.

On October 28, 2016, Pope Francis appointed him a member of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Order of the Sacraments .

On October 26, 2019, Pope Francis Aubertin's age-related resignation as Archbishop of Tours accepted.

Bernard-Nicolas Aubertin is a member of the Order of the Knights of the Holy Sepulcher in Jerusalem and has been its Grand Prior in the Lieutenancy of France since 2017.
