Pierre Plateau

Pierre Marie Léon Augustin Plateau (born January 10, 1924 in Saint-Servan-sur-Mer , Ille-et-Vilaine , France ; † April 26, 2018 in Saint-Malo ) was a French Roman Catholic clergyman and Archbishop of Bourges .

Life

Pierre Plateau was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Rennes on June 28, 1947 after his training at the Couvent des Cordeliers de Dinan . He was a teacher of philosophy at the Saint-Malo institution and from 1974 to 1979 diocesan director of Catholic education in Rennes.

Pope John Paul II appointed him titular bishop of Gunela and auxiliary bishop in Rennes on February 2, 1979 . The Archbishop of Rennes, Paul Cardinal Gouyon , donated him episcopal ordination on April 22nd of the same year ; Co- consecrators were Jean Honoré , Bishop of Évreux , and Eugène-Marie Ernoult , Archbishop of Sens . On April 8, 1984, he was appointed Archbishop of Bourges. In 1985 and 1986 he was the bishop's companion of the French Sports and Cultural Association (FSCF).

In December 1987, Plateau and the Bishop of Angoulême , Georges Rol , brought a lawsuit against the French government because it was planning to reform school teaching to the detriment of the catechism.

On April 25, 2000, John Paul II accepted his resignation because of his age. Plateau then retired to his homeland in Brittany and died in Saint-Malo hospital in 2018. His funeral is scheduled for May 7, 2018.
