The Beromünster reserve transmission tower was a transmission tower completed in 1931 in what was then Gunzwil ( Switzerland ). The tower belonged to the state transmitter Beromünster and served as an operating reserve after a renovation.
description
The state transmitter Beromünster started operations in 1931 as the new medium-wave transmission system in Switzerland with a T antenna on two 125 m high transmission masts in Gunzwil. The towers were designed as free-standing steel lattice towers. After the construction of the Blosenberg tower in 1937, the two towers continued to carry an antenna for medium wave. In 1962 the west tower was dismantled and rebuilt in St. Chrischona near Basel as a transmission tower for VHF radio and TV . The east tower that remained in Gunzwil was isolated from the ground and converted into a self-radiating transmission tower , which served as a reserve antenna for the transmitter in the Blosenberg tower . The disused east tower was blown up in a controlled manner on August 19, 2011 for dismantling.
