Michel Kuehn

Michel Joseph Kuehn (born October 7, 1923 in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges (Sankt Didel), Département Vosges , France ; † September 18, 2012 ibid) was Roman Catholic Bishop of Chartres .

Life

Michel Joseph Kuehn came from a family with seven children, of which two brothers became priests and one sister joined the Augustinian choir women . His brother Louis Kuehn was Bishop of Meaux .

Kuehn entered the seminary in the diocese of Saint-Dié in 1941 and studied philosophy. In 1943 he moved to the Institut Catholique de Paris to study Catholic theology . After ordination on July 12, 1947, he studied civil law and social sciences . In 1951 he took up a pastorate in Remiremont . In 1958 he became a diocesan chaplain for Catholic Action and Scouts . In 1962 he became chaplain of the national Catholic female youth (Jeunesse indépendante catholique féminine (JICF)) and in 1966 also of the national Catholic action (Action catholique indépendante (ACI)). After four years of pastoral care in the parish of Vittel , he was appointed vicar general in 1976 .

Pope Paul VI appointed him on July 27, 1978 Bishop of Chartres. He was ordained episcopal on September 30, 1978 by the Bishop of Saint-Dié , Jean Vilnet ; Co - consecrators were Eugène-Marie Ernoult , Archbishop of Sens-Auxerre , and his brother Louis Kuehn , Bishop of Meaux .

His resignation for health reasons was granted on April 6, 1991 by Pope John Paul II . He took his retirement home in the diocese of Nancy-Toul and worked there in pastoral care. From 1998 he lived in the Saint-Pierre-Fourier nursing home in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges. He was buried in the bishop's crypt of the Saint-Dié cathedral in Saint-Dié-des-Vosges.
