Stefanos Streit ( Greek Στέφανος Στρέιτ , * 1835 in Patras , † April 13, 1920 in Athens ) was a Greek lawyer and politician and university professor . Streit comes from a Franconian-Saxon noble family. His father was the geographer Georgios Streit, his grandfather Johannes Alexander Freiherr von Streit, who had come to Greece with Prince Otto .

Life

Stefanos Streit was born in Patras in 1835 . He studied law in Athens and Germany and began his career as a lawyer. Initially, he served as an appeal judge and as a judge. In 1865 he resigned and worked as a lawyer in Patras until 1872. In that year he was appointed director of the National Bank of Greece in Lamia . In 1889 he was appointed sub-director and later national director . He stayed in this position until 1911. At the same time, he began his university career. In 1875 he became a lecturer in constitutional and international law. 1876 ​​associate professor and full professor in the law faculty in 1879. In 1897 he became finance minister in the government of Alexandros Zaimis .

He died on April 13, 1920 in Athens. He was married to Viktoria Londou (gr. Βικτωρία Λόντου), the daughter of Andreas Ch. Londos , the former mayor of Patras. With her he had a son: Georgios Streit ( Greek Γεώργιος Στρέιτ ).
