Steffen Zühlke

Steffen Zühlke (born April 28, 1965 in Schwerin ) is a former rower from the German Democratic Republic . In 1988 he won the Olympic bronze medal with the double scull.

Zühlke was junior world champion in 1982 with the double scull and in 1983 junior vice world champion in single. In 1985 he took second place behind Uwe Mund at the GDR championships in the single , the following year he was second again, this time behind Andreas Hajek . After Zühlke failed to win a medal at the rowing world championships in 1986 as seventh and in 1987 as fourth with the double quad, he was more successful at the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul. For winning the bronze medal, he was awarded the Patriotic Order of Merit. In 1987 he became student world champion in single. The GDR double scull with Jens Köppen , Steffen Zühlke, Steffen Bogs and Heiko Habermann won bronze behind the boats from Italy and Norway. In 1989 Zühlke and Habermann took third place in the GDR championships in double sculls. In 1990 Zühlke won his second GDR championship title with the double foursome after 1988.

In addition to his career, Zühlke studied electrical engineering and precision device technology, and later information technology. He started for SC Dynamo Berlin .
