The Steiger Ferris Wheel is one of the largest transportable Ferris wheels in the world. The record as the largest transportable Ferris wheel in the world was held from the first presentation at the Schützenfest in Hanover in 1980 until 2012. It has a diameter of 59.76 meters and a weight of 450 tons . To transport 32 specially converted 40-foot containers needed. These are loaded with container sideloaders and a truck crane and transported with our own vehicles and forwarding agents.

history

The Ferris wheel, designed and operated by the Steiger fairground company based in Hamburg (formerly Bad Oeynhausen ), has been an attraction at numerous folk festivals since its world premiere at the Hanover Schützenfest in 1980 . The Steiger ferris wheel has had a completely new design since summer 2010. The lighting system consisting of 15,000 light bulbs was replaced by a modern computer-controlled lighting system with 250,000 LEDs. Almost traditionally, the newly illuminated wheel was presented to the public for the first time at the Hanover shooting festival. This ferris wheel was built by the Bremer Maschinenfabrik Stahl- und Maschinenbau Kocks . The engineering office Dr. Cassens and Jäschke through.

Although 32 transporters are required to transport this amusement ride , it was dismantled after the Cannstatter Wasen in just four days and placed again on the Bremen Freimarkt .

Incidents

When the ride was dismantled after the Oldenburg Kramermarkt in 2010, two of the four 30-meter-high pillars swayed and fell down. In this accident, the pillars damaged the transport vehicles and the ride itself. Despite the presence of the workers and spectators of the dismantling, no people were harmed. The total damage was estimated at around 100,000 euros. Due to the accident, the Giant Wheel's performance at the Bremen Freimarkt 2010 was canceled .

On December 8, 2014, a man committed suicide by jumping out of the gondola at the Berlin Christmas market and falling almost 60 meters. He was dead instantly.

Legal dispute with the city of Stuttgart

Due to the non-approval of the Ferris wheel at the Cannstatter Volksfest 2010, the Steiger company took the city of Stuttgart to court. In 2010, the city first granted a stand license to a competitor, Hablützel & Bruch AG, with its Mega Wheel Millennium Star . The award is based on a point system that takes various parameters (height, capacity, etc.) into account. The Steiger company sued against this. In June 2011 the verdict was announced, Steiger won against the city of Stuttgart and could have been represented again with his Ferris wheel on the Cannstatter Wasen in 2011. Since then, the Steiger company with the Ferris wheel is no longer represented on the Cannstatter Wasen, but in Oldenburg on the Kramermarkt .
