course
The Steinbeke rises from the Bielstein Gorge at the municipal triangle of the cities of Horn-Bad Meinberg , Bad Lippspringe , and the municipality of Schlangen, about 800 meters as the crow flies east of the Bauerkamp restaurant at about 310 m above sea level. The stream initially runs for about 1.9 km in a south-westerly direction. On this 1.9 km long upper course to Noaks pump, the Steinbeke forms the district boundary Paderborn / Lippe along its entire length . In addition, the mostly dry river bed of the upper reaches also serves as a forest path , which is referred to in maps as the Steinbeker Weg. That is probably also the reason why the upper reaches of the Steinbeke are missing on topographic maps . From Noack's pump, the Steinbeke continues for 2.0 km in a predominantly southerly direction. The Römerbrunnen is located on this section at about 3.5 km of the brook, about 20 m east of the Steinbeke. As soon as this well overflows, its water flows over a ditch into the Steinbeke. From here the brook leads again for about 1.75 km in a south-westerly direction to the two forest houses of the regional forest office Hochstift , NP information office and the ducal forest administration. Up to here the brook ran completely through wooded area . From here the further course leads for about 3.1 km in a predominantly westerly direction to Bad Lippspringe. Now the creek flows again for a good 1.5 km in a south-westerly direction to the confluence with the Lippe , at about 135 m above sea level. In this section, the first 320 m lead through a pipeline below Steinbekestraße.
In the lower reaches, the Steinbeke is to be relocated and renatured from the location of Bad Lippspringe.
Water flow
Due to the karst subsoil, the entire length of the stream only carries water on a few days a year, especially after the snow has melted or after prolonged heavy rain . There are also years in which the water from the Steinbeke does not even reach the location of Bad Lippspringe.
