Steingrímur J. Sigfússon

Steingrímur Jóhann Sigfússon (* 4. August 1955 on the farm Gunnarsstaðir on Þistilfjörður ) is a member of the Icelandic parliament Althingi , from 2016 to early 2017 and again since the end of 2017 Parliament President , and from 1999 to 2013 Chairman of the Party Left-Green Movement .

Life

Steingrímur Jóhann Sigfússon was first elected to the Althing in 1983. From 1988 to 1991 he was Minister for Agriculture and Transport. Since the founding of the Green Party Left-Green Movement in 1999, he has been its chairman. His successor as party leader is Katrín Jakobsdóttir .

Since February 1, 2009 he has been Minister for Fisheries and Agriculture and Minister of Finance in the interim government of Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir ( Government of Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir I ).

After the parliamentary elections in April 2009 , he became Minister of Finance in the government of Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir II on May 10, 2009 . In 2011 he moved to the Ministry of Economy and Innovation , where he served as Minister of Industry and Trade as well as Minister of Fisheries and Agriculture. In the cabinet of Sigmundur Davíð Gunnlaugsson , these ministerial posts were initially occupied by two and later three people on May 23, 2013: Steingrímur's successor as Minister of Industry and Trade is Ragnheiður E. Árnadóttir , while Sigurður was Minister for Fisheries and Agriculture and, until the end of 2014, Environment Minister Ingi Jóhannsson officiated. Sigrún Magnúsdóttir has been Minister of the Environment since December 31, 2014 .

In 2016 Steingrímur J. Sigfússon became President of the Althing Parliament as the successor to Einar K. Guðfinnsson, who was no longer running for election . After he was initially followed by Unnur Brá Konráðsdóttir from the Independence Party , he took it up again after the early parliamentary election on October 28, 2017 .
