The stony mountain is 519 m above sea level. NHN high mountain in the Spessart in the Bavarian district of Main-Spessart and in the Hessian Main-Kinzig district .

The stony mountain lies between the towns of Obersinn and Mernes . It is the highest point in the area. The national border runs over the summit. Both the Bavarian and the Hessian part of the mountain are in community-free areas . The northern mountain slope belongs to the Spessart estate , the southern to Burgjoss . The Stony Mountain is surrounded by the Jossa in a northeast arch. In the south, the Mohrenbach valley borders the mountain. The spur running to the Jossa is called the Stackenberg . In the southeast the stony mountain goes flat to the Dreimärker (518 m).
