Steinitz Forest

The Steinitzer Forest (Czech Ždánický les ) is a mountain range in South Moravia , Czech Republic . It forms the southwestern part of the Central Moravian Carpathians .

The Steinitz Forest rises between Bučovice , Koryčany , Ždánice and Hustopeče . It has an extension of 470 km² and an average height of 270.7 m. ü. The highest point is the U Slepice (438 m). Other important peaks are Písečná (374 m), Nové hory (414 m), Na hradisku (399 m), Rádlovec (425 m), Prostřední vrch (416 m) and Přední kout (410 m)

Towards the north the valley of the Litava ( Leitha ) forms the natural border with Litenčická pahorkatina . To the east, the Kyjovka valley separates the Steinitz Forest from the Mars Mountains . The hill country Kyjovská pahorkatina connects to the southeast ; to the south lies the Dolnomoravský úval. In the west the ridge drops to the Thaya-Schwarza valley basin . The Boleradická vrchovina, Dambořická vrchovina and Hustopečská pahorkatina form sub-units.

In the Steinitz forest are u. a. the U Vrby nature reserve and the Baračka nature reserve.

Since 1968 an area of ​​68 km² has been protected as the Ždánický les Nature Park.
