Wallmow stone boxes

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The stone boxes from Wallmow were two stone box graves from the Neolithic Funnel Beaker Culture (TBK) near Wallmow , a district of Carmzow-Wallmow in the Uckermark district ( Brandenburg ). They were destroyed in the first half of the 20th century.

location

The stone box 1 was north of Wallmow near the Barbican Alwinenhof. The location of the second stone box has not been recorded.

Several other graves from the Neolithic Age are known from the area around Wallmow. According to Leopold von Ledebur , on the highest point of the Wallmow field mark , which corresponds to the rolling hills to the south, there were three apparently artificial hills that were largely untouched around 1845 and probably contained large stone graves. According to Eberhard Kirsch , a stone packing grave destroyed in 1934 could be identical to the facilities described by Ledebur because of the similar description of the location near the Schwaneberg - Grenz and Wallmow - Rollberg crossroads . Of surface finds one or two are Amazonenäxte known.

description

Stone box 1

The complex, which was destroyed before 1909, had a mound that contained a stone burial chamber at a depth of 1.5 m. The orientation and dimensions of the chamber are not recorded. Human bones and five flint tools were found. The latter are three axes and two chisels. They can be assigned to the younger funnel beaker culture or the spherical amphora culture and are now in the Prenzlau Museum .

Stone box 2

The grave, destroyed in 1932/33, was made of stone slabs. Orientation, dimensions and shape are not recorded. Human bones and unadorned pottery shards were found. The latter came into private hands and are now lost. The cultural classification is difficult based on this information. Eberhard Kirsch thinks an assignment to the funnel beaker culture is conceivable.
