The Stellar Banner is a 2016-built VLOC - bulk of South Korean shipping company Polaris Shipping.

The ship was part of a series of three commissioned by Hyundai Heavy Industries in January 2014. The lead ship Stellar Ace was delivered in December 2015, the Stellar Banner followed in June 2016 and in June 2017 the trio was completed with the Stellar Crown . Polaris operated the Stellar Banner and a few other ships in a long-term charter from the Brazilian company Vale .

The Stellar Banner began a journey of 294,800 tons of Brazilian iron ore from Ponta da Madeira to Qingdao in China in February 2020 . After leaving Ponta da Madeira on February 24, 2020, the ore ship was listed and was then put aground about 100 km from São Luís to prevent sinking. The crew was saved. Over 300 liters of fuel leaked; a total of 4,000 tons of fuel were on board. At the beginning of June 2020 the ship was lifted after about 145,000 tons of iron ore had been lightened and sunk on June 12, including the remaining cargo of 145,000 tons of iron ore.

The shipwreck brought back memories of the sinking of the Stellar Daisy .
