Until December 2006, Stenløse Kommune was a Danish municipality in what was then Frederiksborg Amt in the northeast of the main island of Zealand . Since January 2007 it has been part of the newly formed Egedal municipality together with the former Ledøje-Smørum and Ølstykke municipalities . Stenløse is located in the northwest suburbs of Copenhagen .

The large stone grave Stenløse By (archive no. 010605-70) is between Stenløse and Værebro.
