Stephan Graf Vitzthum

Stephan Graf Vitzthum von Eckstädt (born August 6, 1940 in Breslau ; † September 1, 2003 in Aachen ) was a German lawyer and honorary professor .

Life

Stephan Graf Vitzthum came from the noble family Vitzthum . He was the son of Wolfgang Graf Vitzthum and the military historian Ursula von Gersdorff . His brother is the legal scholar Wolfgang Graf Vitzthum .

After graduating from high school, Count Vitzthum was initially a regular soldier, most recently as a lieutenant at sea . He studied law and political science in Berlin and Freiburg im Breisgau and was then assistant for public law and legal philosophy at the Universities of Mannheim and Freiburg. After his first and second state law examinations, he was awarded the title “Left-Liberal Politics and Material Constitutional Law. Albert Hänel 1833–1918 " at the Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg im Breisgau for Dr. iur. PhD. The dissertation was awarded the Wolf-Erich-Kellner Prize in 1971.

From 1972 Graf Vitzthum was initially a research assistant and advisor for German and international mining and energy law at the Mining Association in Bonn . From 1978 to 1985 he was in-house counsel for the Eschweiler Bergwerk-Verein , a mining company in the Aachen coal field .

Graf Vitzthum has been teaching mining law , labor law and social law at RWTH Aachen University since 1985 . In 1992 he was appointed honorary professor there. Count Vitzthum was co-author of a fundamental legal commentary on the Federal Mining Act (BBergG) .

Stephan Graf Vitzthum was married to Elisabeth Countess Tacoli; there are four children from the marriage.
