Stephan Herzberg

Stephan Herzberg (* 1978 in Frankfurt am Main ) is a German philosopher .

Life

He attended the Oberursel-Weißkirchen elementary school from 1984 to 1988 and the Bishop-Neumann School from 1988 to 1997 . In addition, he trained as a part-time church musician. From 1997 to 1998 he did military service . He completed his studies in philosophy (1998–2000) at the School of Philosophy with a bachelor's degree in philosophy. From 2000 to 2001 he studied philosophy and Catholic theology at the PTH Sankt Georgen and the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . He completed his studies in philosophy, Greek and Catholic theology at the Eberhard Karls University in Tübingen (2002–2004) with a master's degree in philosophy and Catholic theology. From 2004 to 2007 he was a research assistant in the DFG project Aristotle's Epistemology in connection with his main theoretical writings with Otfried Höffe . After receiving his doctorate in 2008 as Dr. phil. In 2008 he was a visiting scholar at the University of Toronto and a visiting scholar at the Pontifical Institute of Mediaeval Studies . From 2008 to 2012 he was a research assistant at the chair for basic philosophical questions in theology in Tübingen with Johannes Brachtendorf and a lecturer at the philosophy seminar. He completed the supplementary and postgraduate studies in Catholic theology (2008–2012) with a Lic. Theol. From 2010 to 2015 he was a member of the Heidelberg Academy of Sciences . In 2012, he was appointed lecturer for philosophy at the Philosophical-Theological University of Sankt Georgen. A teaching position at the University of Innsbruck he had in 2015. After habilitation in Innsbruck in 2016 with the work ethic, luck, God and granting the right to teach in the subject Christian philosophy he was appointed in 2017 Professor appointed for the History of Philosophy and Practical Philosophy.

His main research interests are Aristotle (theory of perception, hylemorphism; ethics), Thomas von Aquin (commentary on ethics; doctrine of happiness, lex treatise), justification of norms, intrinsece malum and philosophy of love.
