from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Stephan Michael Tauschitz (born June 2, 1978 ) is an Austrian civil servant and former politician ( ÖVP ). Tauschitz has been head of the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Counter-Terrorism in Carinthia since February 1, 2022 . From 2004 to 2013 he was a member of the Carinthian state parliament and from 2007 to 2012 he was club chairman of the ÖVP parliamentary group.

education and profession

After elementary and secondary school, Tauschitz attended the Goldbrunnhof Agricultural College in Völkermarkt and then switched to the Higher Federal College for Alpine Agriculture in Raumberg , where he passed his Matura . He then began studying at the Vienna University of Economics and Business Administration and completed a degree in business administration in the field of economics and law at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt . In police training, Tauschitz completed a master's degree in strategic security management at the University of Applied Sciences in Wiener Neustadt .

After retiring from politics, Tauschitz initially worked in the Ministry of Finance and from 2015 for the Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Combating Terrorism (BVT) in Vienna. In 2017 he returned to Carinthia to work as head of department for analysis, evaluation and prevention at the State Office for the Protection of the Constitution and Counter-Terrorism (LVT) of the Carinthian State Police Headquarters in Klagenfurt. On February 1, 2022, he was appointed head of the LVT Carinthia.

student fraternities

Tauschitz became a member of Trautenfels Irding ( MKV ) in 1998 and of Carinthia Klagenfurt ( ÖCV ) in 2000. On October 2, 1999, he was awarded the Babenberg Klagenfurt ( MKV ) ribbon.

politics

Tauschitz was already politically active at school and was head boy in Goldbrunnhof in 1994/95 and head boy in Raumberg in 1997/1998. In the 1998/1999 school year, he rose to become the deputy chairman of the Austrian School Union . Tauschitz was later also active in the student representation and in 2000/2001 he was state chairman of the Carinthian Student Action Community. In February 2003 he was elected state chairman of the Young ÖVP Carinthia and on March 31, 2004 he was sworn in as a member of the Carinthian state parliament. Tauschitz has been the chairman of the ÖVP state parliament club since October 23, 2007. Robert Lutschounig (Bauernbund) had also stood for election as club chairman, but was defeated by Tauschitz, who had been supported by the state party. After the election of Tauschitz, there were initially puzzles about the voting method and the result of the vote, it was only confirmed that the voting was not carried out by ballot paper and was therefore not secret. Those entitled to vote remained silent about the election process itself. The daily press then reported that Tauschitz had only been elected with votes from the state party.

On August 2, 2012, it was announced that Tauschitz would resign as club chairman because the new executive party chairman, Gabriel Obernosterer , wanted to put together a new team.

criticism

Shortly after his appointment as head of the Carinthian state office for the protection of the constitution and counter-terrorism in February 2022, in which he is also responsible for monitoring right- wing extremism , it became known that Tauschitz had given speeches at the right-wing extremist Ulrichsberg meeting in 2008 and 2010 . The Federal Greens then described him as unacceptable and called for the management post to be re-advertised. Oskar Deutsch , the president of the Israelite religious community , criticized the appointment of Tauschitz: "Anyone who takes part in the Ulrichsberg meeting should be observed by the Office for the Protection of the Constitution and cannot direct it. Paying homage to the Waffen-SS, legitimizing a Nazi march through participation is not a trivial offense. There is an urgent need for action!” Tauschitz explained that from today's perspective he would no longer be taking part in the meeting.

private

Tauschitz is married, has two daughters and lives in Grafenstein .
