Stephan Straub (born January 25, 1971 in Saarbrücken ) is a former German soccer player and current soccer coach . Most recently he was a long-time goalkeeper at Alemannia Aachen and then briefly at Fortuna Düsseldorf .

career

Aachen signed Straub for the 2001/02 season as a substitute goalkeeper behind Christian Schmidt . After Schmidt's injuries, he initially represented the latter and performed well so that he became a regular goalkeeper. Until the 2004/05 season he remained “Number 1” at Alemannia Aachen . During this time he reached sixth place in the table in the 2nd Bundesliga three times in a row with Alemannia Aachen , the final of the DFB Cup of the 2003/04 season and the round of 32 in the UEFA Cup of the following season . After playing 132 competitive games in a row, however, he injured his ankle so badly on matchday 29 that he was out for a long time and consequently lost his regular place to the young up-and-coming goalkeeper Kristian Not . In the 2005/06 season he still wore the shirt number 1, but only came back for three games when the promotion was ready. The rest of the time Kristian was not in goal. Straub has played a total of 146 second division games so far.

He was also substituted on the first day of the 2006/07 premier league season after a red card for Kristian Not, so that at the age of 35 he played his first of 16 premier league games. From the 16th day of the first division season 2006/07 he displaced Kristian Nicht out of the gate. On April 8, 2007, Stephan Straub suffered an overstretching of both the inner ligament and the anterior cruciate ligament in the home game against Borussia Dortmund (4: 1 for Dortmund) and was out for the rest of the 2006/07 season. After his recovery and the change nothing, Straub was the second goalkeeper behind the newly signed Thorsten Stuckmann . His engagement in Aachen ended with the 2008/09 season. In his last game for Alemannia, which was also their last championship game at Tivoli, he was supposed to be used from the start as a farewell in recognition of his special services to the team, but had to do without it due to injury and was only in the last part of the game to great cheers substituted in.

For the 2009/10 season, the second division promoted Fortuna Dusseldorf temporarily hired him because of an injury to their goalkeeper, but ultimately, after the goalkeeper recovered, could not afford the obligation of a third goalkeeper.

Since January 2010, he has been the coach of Concordia Oidtweiler, a regional division near Aachen. For the 2010/11 season he returned to Alemannia as a youth coach (U15), but continued to act as coach at Concordia Oidtweiler. In 2012 he was promoted to the Middle Rhine District League with this. In September 2013 he resigned as trainer for Concordia.
