Oidtweiler [ˈɔtvaɪ̯lɐ] is a southern district of Baesweiler in the North Rhine-Westphalian city region of Aachen . Oidtweiler has now grown together with Alt-Baesweiler via the fully built-up streets “Eschweilerstraße” (L 240) and “Bahnhofstraße”. There is a fire station for the volunteer fire brigade in Oidtweiler .
history
Neolithic finds between Oidtweiler and Alt-Baesweiler indicate an early settlement. Oidtweiler was on a secondary Roman road that led from Eschweiler via Baesweiler to Heinsberg. However, traces of Roman settlement have not yet been proven.
On April 13, 1104, the place was first mentioned as de Oidthwilre in a document from Archbishop Friedrich I of Cologne .
St. Martinus is the only remaining church building from medieval times in Baesweiler city area. The former Gothic church is now the south aisle. The church was the mother church of several surrounding villages. The now much larger Baesweiler belonged to the parish of St. Martinus until the 16th century. To this day, the neighboring village of Bettendorf belongs to the parish, even if it has its own church.
From 1961 to 1971 the zip code was "5111 Oidtweiler / over Alsdorf (Kr. Aachen)".
On January 1, 1972, Oidtweiler was incorporated into the Baesweiler community. A small part of the community was awarded to Alsdorf.
