Stephana Quinzani (born September 7, 1457 in Orzinuovi near Brescia , † January 2, 1530 in Soncino near Cremona ) was a Tertiary in the Dominican order . She was beatified by Pope Benedict XIV on December 14, 1740 . Their festival is on January 2nd .

Live and act

Stephana Quinzani was the daughter of a peasant family and joined the Dominican Terziarinnen in Crema at the age of 15 . Around 1485 she founded a monastery of the Third Order of St. Dominic in Soncino , which she directed. For 40 years she endured spiritual desolation , as the church historian Ekkart Sauser writes in the Biographical-Bibliographical Church Lexicon. For 40 years she lived without devotion and plagued by doubts. During this time, however, she was also active in caring for the poor. It was reported that she wore the marks of Christ .

Pope Benedict XIV confirmed her veneration as a blessed on December 14, 1740 . Her relics were transferred back to Soncino from Colorno in 1988 and have been kept in the Church of San Giacomo ever since. The Dominican Order celebrates their inevitable day of remembrance on January 2nd.
