Stephen Bronner

Stephen Eric Bronner (born August 19, 1949 in New York ) is a political philosopher and professor of political science , literary studies and German studies at Rutgers University in New Brunswick in New Jersey , USA .

He has authored more than twenty books in the field of political theory.

Life

Bronner received his Bachelor (BA) from City College , New York, and then spent a year at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen on a scholarship . Bronner received his Masters in Philosophy (MA) and the subsequent PhD (Ph.D.) in Political Science from the University of California, Berkeley .

Bronner has taught at Rutgers University since 1976 . He was also a visiting professor at the New School for Social Research and, in 1998, at the University of Leipzig .

Bronner contributed many articles in professional journals such as B. New Politics , Political Theory , Social Research or Telos . He also wrote several books on contemporary political theory, culture and history. For his book Moments of Decision: Political History and the Crises of the Radical Left , he was awarded the Michael A. Harrington Prize in 1991 .

He is also one of the editors of Logos: A Journal of Modern Society and Culture and serves on the editorial boards of the journals New Political Theory , X-Alta (France) and Eszmelet (Hungary).

Theoretical contributions

Stephen Bronner's work focuses on the connection of traditional political theories and theorists within their social, political, cultural and historical contexts with the aim of jointly reflecting on them critically. Based on tradition, he tries to recognize its salient features and to derive from them both the requirements of and their form of expression in the next millennium.

Through his critical analyzes and interpretations, in which he combines traditional theories with new values ​​and obligations, he articulates the possible importance of tradition for the development of progressive politics and confronts a plethora of tasks that arise from modern society.
