Stephen Andrew Lynch (born July 28, 1971 in Abington , Pennsylvania ) is an American singer and comedian . He is best known in the USA for his sarcastic lyrics and has also worked as a musical actor.

Life and work

Lynch grew up in the suburbs of Saginaw, Michigan and attended college at Western Michigan University . In 1996 he went to New York City to become an actor. There he was suggested to play some of his humorous songs, which he had been writing for about three years, in front of an audience in a café. This first appearance was followed by a few more in comedy clubs and his songs were also regularly played on the radio. During this time, Lynch worked in copy shops and banks, what he called "totally mindless work" (completely mindless work). He kept resigning jobs of this kind until he signed a contract with What Are Records? and graduated with the William Morris Agency in 2001 . He then toured the United States and played mainly at colleges, universities and night clubs. He avoided performing in front of typical comedy club audiences, as this was not to his taste. Lynch also played a concert for Comedy Central Presents during this time , which made him known to an even larger audience through a nationwide broadcast.

In the following years he continued to play many concerts, including some major comedy festivals. From April to December 2006 he was also on stage with Laura Benanti for the musical The Wedding Singer on Broadway , which was inspired by the film of the same name. For this role he was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Actor . Before that, he had worked in several short films since 2001. After appearing on Broadway, Lynch resumed concert tours in 2007 through the USA, Canada and some countries in Europe.

Lynch lives in Brooklyn with his wife .
