The star-Anemone ( Anemone hortensis ) is a plant of the genus Anemone ( Anemone ).

description

The star anemone is a perennial plant that reaches heights of 20 to 40 centimeters. The mostly hand-shaped basal leaves are three to five parts with slashed, wedge-shaped sections at the front. The stem is single-flowered. The flower is 3 to 6 inches wide. Shortly below it is a whorl made of bracts , which are seated, mostly undivided and linear-lanceolate. The 12 to 19, usually 15 bracts are pointed, narrow-lanceolated and pale or dark purple, purple or almost white in color. The dust bags are blue.

The flowering period extends from February to April.

The number of chromosomes is 2n = 16.

distribution

The star anemone occurs in southern France, Italy, Dalmatia, Albania, Crete and Karpathos. It grows on fallow fields, in garrigues , in sparse forests and in olive groves at altitudes of 0 to 1000 (rarely up to 1800) meters.

Systematics

There are two known subspecies:

Anemone hortensis subsp. hortensis
Anemone hortensis subsp. heldreichii (Boiss.) Rech. f. : It occurs in Crete.

Anemone hortensis and Anemone pavonina form the hybrid Anemone × fulgens (DC.) J.Gay . This has more than 15 narrow, scarlet bracts.

The star anemone is rarely used as an ornamental plant in alpine houses .

For the star anemone, the names Alemönlie ( Switzerland ), small garden anemone and Salamönli (Switzerland) are or were, sometimes only regionally, in use.
