Steve Bittner

Steve Bittner (born May 1, 1991 in Zwickau ) is a German basketball referee . He is used in the basketball league and internationally for the world basketball association Fédération Internationale de Basketball , including in its top European competition, the Basketball Champions League . He works as a volunteer basketball official. Bittner is a studied political scientist ( Master of Arts ).

Career and performance as a referee

In October 2006, at the age of 15, Bittner acquired his DBB referee license and initially directed games in the leagues of the Basketball Association of Saxony . In the 2007/08 season he whistled his first games in the 2nd Regionalliga Südost . In 2008 he was promoted to the 1st regional league as a referee and directed games in the junior basketball league and the 2nd women's basketball league .

In 2009 Steve Bittner was awarded the Peter Klingbiel Scholarship, which was introduced in honor of the late DBB General Secretary Peter Klingbiel and financially supports young basketball referees in their development to become top referees.

In 2009 he was appointed to the C-squad of the German Basketball Federation and in the seasons 2009/10, 2010/11 and 2011/12 he mainly played games in the 2. Basketball Bundesliga ProB . In the 2011/12 season, Bittner led the first games in the 2nd Basketball Bundesliga ProA .

In 2012 he was appointed to the DBB-B squad and on 10 October 2012 he led his first game in the 1st basketball league between Telekom Baskets Bonn and medi Bayreuth.

In the 2013/14 season, Bittner was appointed to the senior squad at the age of 22 and has been in the 1st basketball division ever since . As a referee, he reached the BBL quarter-finals in the 2014/15 season, the BBL semi-finals in the 2015/16 and 2017/18 seasons and the BBL final in the 2016/17, 2018/19 and 2019/20 seasons.

Bittner has held the referee license of the international basketball association FIBA since 2017 and has been whistling games in the highest European FIBA ​​competition, the Basketball Champions League, since the 2018/19 season .

In 2018 he directed games, including the small final between France and Turkey, the U16 European Championship in Novi Sad , Serbia .

In 2019, Bittner was nominated as referee by the World Basketball Federation FIBA for the U19 World Championship for women in Bangkok , Thailand .

In June 2020 Steve Bittner took part as one of eleven referees in the final tournament of the easyCredit Basketball Bundesliga , led the semi-final series between EWE Baskets Oldenburg and Alba Berlin and the second leg of the final between MHP Riesen Ludwigsburg and Alba Berlin , in which the Albatrosses prevailed and won the championship title.
