Steven Michael "Steve" Lenagh (born March 21, 1979 in Durham ) is a former English football player .

Career

Lenagh was a trainee (German apprentice) to the first division club Sheffield Wednesday before he was released from his contract in November 1997 and joined the third division club Chesterfield FC . At Chesterfield Lenagh only received monthly contracts and initially played in the reserve team. In a 0-1 defeat by Grimsby Town in the Football League Trophy , he was used for the first time in a competitive game of the professional team in December 1997, followed by three appearances as a substitute in the Second Division from March to May 1998 . For the 1998/99 season he received an annual contract with Chesterfield and initially still belonged to the reserve team. Around Christmas 1998 Lenagh, actually used in central defense or in midfield, was called up several times as a striker during an injury miserable by coach John Duncan and showed attractive performances in the unfamiliar position. His first competitive goal followed in April in a 2-1 home win against York City .

For the 1999/2000 season he joined the Rochdale AFC playing in the Third Division . Also due to a protracted injury, he did not play a competitive game and only sat on the bench four times during the season; the two center-back positions were occupied by Keith Hill , Mark Monington and Dave Bayliss . From the 2000/01 season he played in the five-class Football Conference for Kettering Town and was temporarily awarded to FC King's Lynn . Even after Kettering was relegated to the Southern Football League , Lenagh was still part of the squad and played a decisive role in the 2000/01 league title and the associated direct resurgence. He also played with the club in the first round match of the FA Cup 2001/02 against fourth division side Cheltenham Town , when the outsider was in the lead for most of the first half, but lost the game 6-1 in the end.

For the 2002/03 season he briefly joined Ilkeston Town , but only moved a little later to Hucknall Town in the Northern Premier League . At Hucknall he was dismissed in March 2003 for "poor and unprofessional behavior" and joined the club Leek Town , which played a league lower, but was not used. In August 2003 he joined Stalybridge Celtic , just a month later he moved to the Gresley Rovers in the Southern League, where he played the 2003/04 season. After his career as a professional footballer, he joined the police force, and in December 2003 was a member of a British football prison team.
