Ordo Ad Chao is the fourth studio album by the Norwegian extreme metal group Mayhem . The title is Latin and means "from order to chaos", a reversal of the Masonic motto , "ordo ab chao". The album was released on April 23, 2007.

Emergence

After Maniac (Sven Erik Kristiansen) left , Attila Csihar was hired again as singer, after he had already taken over the vocals on the album De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas in 1994. At the same time it is the last with guitarist Blasphemer (Rune Eriksen). Another aspect worth mentioning is that Necrobutcher (Jørn Stubberud) did not play the bass guitar on this album, although he appears as bassist in the booklet. The bass is played by blasphemers instead.

Since Attila Csihar was also responsible for the lyrics, there was a thematic change from the band's earlier concerns, which particularly related to morbid and satanic topics. Now the texts mainly deal with psychological forces and the topic of the Annunaki .

Music genre

Ordo Ad Chao mainly contains fast-played Extreme Metal, but with a high tempo variability.

“[E] in a single mess of indefinable riffs, impenetrable darkness and subliminal violence. No recognizability, no uniform pace, no mercy with the convolutions of the brain trimmed to repetitive patterns. Just dirt, snot and blood, the worst that 25 years of Black Metal have to offer. "

- Florian

In contrast to the last releases, the production was deliberately of poor quality. It was worked with a lot of reverb, so the guitars look washed out, with some pieces the impression is given that whole riffings are disappearing. The drums can be heard clearly and distinctly, muffled, but with perfectly placed blastbeats and breaks . Besides Attila Csihar's vocals, it's the only element that never seems to get lost in the bass-heavy production.

Versions

In addition to the standard LP and CD, there is a red CD in a jewelery case. Another version, limited to 13 pieces, is pressed on a 24-carat gold CD. In addition, two gatefold LPs were released, one in orange (limited to 1000 pieces), the other in marble (500 pieces). There is also a vinyl version from Dark Side Records under the license from Season of Mist. This limited edition of 1000 hand-numbered copies in a transparent sleeve comes with an A2 poster and a sheet of text.
