Steven Lenhart (born August 28, 1986 in Jacksonville ) is a former American football player who was mostly used as a striker . He was most recently under contract with FC Imabari .

Career

Youth and amateur football

Lenhart grew up in Yorba Linda , California . There he went to Esperanza High School. After Lenhart graduated from there, he went to Point Loma Nazarene University for a year and then moved to Azusa Pacific University for the rest of his college days . For the soccer team at Azusa Pacific University, he completed 61 games in three years, scoring 38 goals and preparing twelve more. In his senior year Lenhart was also recognized as the MVP of the 2007 NAIA season, in which he was instrumental in winning the title at his university. While in college he played in the Premier Development League for the Southern California Seahorses .

Club career

Lenhart was chosen on January 18, 2008 as the sixth pick in the fourth round (48th overall) in the 2008 MLS SuperDraft by the Columbus Crew . He made his competitive debut on May 31, 2008 against CD Chivas USA . He scored his first major league soccer goal on June 21, 2008 against Los Angeles Galaxy . At the end of his first professional season, Lenhart won the MLS Cup with the Columbus Crew . In the following two years Lenhart developed into an important player for the Columbus Crew, with whom he was also successful in the CONCACAF Champions League .

Despite his role on the team, Lenhart and an undisclosed fee were swapped for the 15th pick in the first round of the 2011 MLS SuperDraft of the San José Earthquakes . There he extended his contract on November 30, 2011.

Due to severe knee injuries, he did not play a game for San Jose from the middle of the 2014 season.

On January 27, 2017, the Japanese fourth division club FC Imabari announced the commitment of Lenhart. However, after just four months and four games, Lenhart had to end his career due to the aftereffects of multiple concussions.

Private

When Lenhart's father died in 2011, he took a break from professional sports and was temporarily released from the Earthquakes. Lenhart has a sister who is married to Adam Moffat . This played together with Lenhart in Columbus.
