The Collegiate Church of St. Julien is a church building of the Catholic community in Tournon-sur-Rhône on Place St Julien. It dates back to the 14th century and changed affiliation twice during the wars of religion in France. The church is located in the old city center and has been a listed building since 1996 .

history

The church building in Gothic flamboyant style goes back to a small Romanesque chapel that was here in the 11th century. The sacred building made of limestone and field stones was raised to the rank of collegiate church when it was inaugurated on June 16, 1316 and was given the name of Saint Julien de Brioude . During the wars of religion the church became Protestant - from 1563 to 1579. From June 7, 1794 it was the Temple of the Supreme Being ("Temple de l'Etre Suprême"), in 1795 St. Julien became Catholic again and has remained so to this day .

In 1963/1964 the church building was comprehensively restored under the direction of the city architect Jean Roche. In 2002 the parish of St. Julien merged with the parish of St. Lucas from Viviers zu St. Luc and thus belongs to the local episcopate.
