Saxony-Anhalt Cultural Foundation
The Kulturstiftung Sachsen-Anhalt (until 2017 Dome and Castles Foundation in Saxony-Anhalt ) is a foundation under public law for the preservation of cultural monuments and cultural assets in Saxony-Anhalt with its seat at Leitzkau Castle .
Emergence
The state has an exceptionally rich and diverse inventory of architectural monuments from its cultural past. Cathedrals, monasteries, castles and palaces stand as testimony to the various architectural eras. One of the tasks of the Sachsen-Anhalt Cultural Foundation is to maintain and preserve 18 buildings.
Already with the resolution of the state government of January 16, 1996 to establish the "Foundation for palaces, castles and gardens of the State of Saxony-Anhalt" and the resolution of May 7, 1996 to establish the "Cathedral Foundation", the executive board of both foundations was in accordance with the statutes their common management created.
In 2001 the Foundation for Palaces, Castles and Gardens of the State of Saxony-Anhalt was entrusted with the fiduciary administration of both the “Kloster Bergesche Foundation” and the “Foundation Monastery of our Dear Women”. To this day (2015), the board function is also carried out in personal union.
On January 1, 2005, the “Dome and Palaces Foundation in Saxony-Anhalt” was created through the merger of the two previously independent state foundations “Domstiftung” and “Foundation Palaces, Castles, Gardens”. At the same time, the foundation took over the management of the legally independent "Michaelstein Monastery Foundation". As of 2010, the “Dome and Castles Foundation in Saxony-Anhalt” entered into an administrative cooperation with the “Moritzburg Foundation - Art Museum of the State of Saxony-Anhalt”, which was provisionally completed on January 1, 2014 following a transfer of operations to the “Dome and Castles Foundation in Saxony-Anhalt ”found.
As a result of a reform in the area of public law foundations of the state of Saxony-Anhalt, the state parliament passed a law on the establishment of the dependent "Foundation Moritzburg Halle (Saale) - Art Museum of the State of Saxony-Anhalt" and the "Michaelstein Monastery Foundation - Saxony-Anhalt Music Academy for Education and Performance Practice". With this law, the aforementioned foundations and their assets were transferred to the fiduciary administration of the “Dome and Castles Foundation in Saxony-Anhalt”.
The foundation employed around 170 people in 2015.
Board member has been since February 1, 2015 as the successor to Boje Schmuhl Christian Philipsen.
