action

While driving a car Johan is looking for something in the glove compartment, and through this inattention he runs over ten-year-old Tove, who is on her way to school. In the hospital, where the girl succumbs to her serious injuries, Johan sees Anna for the first time, who is collecting her daughter's things and is fascinated by her. Because of the accident, there is a court hearing in which only Anders, Tove's father, is attending. Anna, the grieving mother, goes into therapy instead. Johan is acquitted by the court as not guilty, but feels responsible and goes into depression that makes him unable to work. A year later, Anna and Johan happened to meet at Stockholm Ost station and had a brief conversation on the train ride that followed. She accidentally leaves her calendar when getting out of the car, and Johan uses this as an opportunity to visit Anna at home. They are sympathetic and begin a timid friendship, with Anna pretending in the conversations that her daughter is still alive. Johan does not manage to tell Anna the truth that he was the cause of the accident. Instead, the two fall in love, Johann leaves his girlfriend Kattis, and Anna becomes pregnant. When Anders and Johan meet in the presence of Anna, the truth emerges and Anna withdraws from Johan, disappointed. She goes to a clinic to have the child aborted, but then changes her mind, but lets Johan believe there is no more child. Anna has increasing tensions with her husband because she is clearly not pregnant with Anders. Around Christmas time, Johan gets strong tablets and tries to kill himself. Anna leaves her little Christmas party at home with her luggage and looks for Johan. His former girlfriend Kattis gives Anna his new address, so his life can be saved just in time. When he wakes up in the hospital, pregnant Anna is sitting by his bed smiling.

criticism

"In" Stockholm Ost "director Simon Kaijser blurs the moral boundaries between right and wrong. In a touching way, he describes not only the story of the mother who stayed behind after the accident, but also the suffering of the person who caused it. The unusual love affair between Anna and Johan is disturbing, but also deeply human. "
