The container ship type 8125 of the Stocznia Gdynia shipyard was built in series from the mid-1990s to the early 2000s.
history
The 8125 series was initially not ordered after the draft was completed. The shipyard then built the type ship of the series on its own account. The ship launched in September 1995 was sold to the Alpha Ship shipping company from Leer (later Bremen) in November of the same year. By 2002, eleven more units followed for various German clients - Alpha Ship alone took over eight units, the shipping company's own name is Planettype . The last four units of the type were made externally supplied hulls of the Gdansk shipyard built. The type remained in the range until the shipyard went bankrupt in the 2000s, but was later no longer ordered.
The ships were often used on container liner services in regions with poorly developed port infrastructure, for example a relatively large number of the ships were on South American services.
Technical details
The ships are designed as full container ships with a deckhouse far aft . The load capacity at the draft draft of 8.50 meters is 13,000 tons, with a maximum unloading of 10.20 meters, 18,400 tons can be transported. The container capacity is slightly over 1100 TEU . With a homogeneous load with 14-tonne 20-foot containers, the transport of up to 850 TEU is possible. The ships are set up on deck for the transport of 20-foot, 40-foot, 45-foot and 49-foot containers and dangerous cargo in the hold. About 150 refrigerated containers can be connected. The ships have four cargo holds without a substructure with seven hatches that are closed with pontoon hatch covers. The ships have two electrohydraulic ship cranes from the manufacturer NMF , each with a lifting capacity of 43 tons, arranged amidships .
The ships are powered by a MAN B&W two-stroke diesel engine of the type 7S50MC with an output of around 10,000 kW . The motor acts directly on a fixed propeller and enables a speed of around 18.5 knots . There are also three diesel generators, each with an apparent power of 3100 kVA , which are driven by Wärtsila Vasa 6R20 engines, and an emergency diesel generator. The berthing and casting off maneuvers are supported by a bow thruster with 650 kW output.
