2010 census
At the time of the 2010 census , there were 1,806 people, 819 households and 494 families in the city. The population density was 2,124.7 people per square mile (820.4 / km²). There were 890 housing units at an average density of 1,047.1 per square mile (404.3 / km²). The ethnic makeup of the city was 95.8% white, 1.8% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific, 0.1% other races, and 1.6% of two or more more ethnicities. Hispanic or Latino of any ethnic group was 1.9% of the population.
There were 819 households out of which 23.2% had children under the age of 18, 42.5% were married couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder without a husband, and 5.1% had a male householder without Wife and 39.7% were single households. 33.8% of all households were individuals and 14.3% had a single person who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.19 and the average family size was 2.76.
The median age in the city was 45.6 years. 18.2% of the population were under 18 years old; 5.9% were between 18 and 24 years old; 24.8% were between 25 and 44 years old; 30.8% were between 45 and 64 years old; and 20.3% were 65 years or older. The city's gender distribution was 47.0% male and 53.0% female.
