At the time of the 2010 census , there were 1,806 people, 819 households and 494 families in the city. The population density was 2,124.7 people per square mile (820.4 / km²). There were 890 housing units at an average density of 1,047.1 per square mile (404.3 / km²). The ethnic makeup of the city was 95.8% white, 1.8% African American, 0.2% Native American, 0.3% Asian, 0.1% Pacific, 0.1% other races, and 1.6% of two or more more ethnicities. Hispanic or Latino of any ethnic group was 1.9% of the population.

There were 819 households out of which 23.2% had children under the age of 18, 42.5% were married couples living together, 12.7% had a female householder without a husband, and 5.1% had a male householder without Wife and 39.7% were single households. 33.8% of all households were individuals and 14.3% had a single person who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.19 and the average family size was 2.76.
