history

Depiction of the stork's castle from 1681 by Georg Matthäus Vischer .

In the Middle Ages, there was already an interest-bearing farm at the site of today's castle, which in the 13th century became a tenth farm of the Hanau residents. In the 15th century, the farm was owned by the Gradner family before it went to Andreas von Greißenegg as a farm in 1462 . After his execution and the confiscation of his property by Emperor Friedrich III. in 1471 the court went to the Breuners , who connected it to the Schmirnberg rulership .

In 1611 Georg Stürgkh acquired the farm and had it expanded into a noble farm. A mention as Stürgkhhof on Afling took place in 1642. Its present name from the Störchenschlössel probably the botched form Stürgkhenschloss . The Edelhof received the fishing rights to the Kainach in 1681. Around 1700 Anna Johanna Stürgkh sold the Edelhof to Johann Karl von Liechtenstein , who in 1702 received a measurement license for the palace chapel. In 1711 Johann Christoph Leeb, who was pastor in Pöls , acquired the Edelhof and dedicated it in 1746 to endow the beneficiaries of the church of Sankt Johann am Tauern . A renovation of the Edelhof is said to have taken place in 1780. At that time it got its present form and was used as a farmhouse. The bell tower in the shape of a roof turret was removed around 1900. The building was restored again in the 1970s.
