Tight Reins 75
Straffe Reins 75 was a German - US-American FTX military maneuver in Lower Saxony , which took place in the autumn of 1975 and in which a total of 13,800 NATO soldiers took part.

- 3rd U.S. Amored Cavalry Regiment , Fort Bliss, Texas
- 36th Marine Amphibious Unit (36th MAU), Norfolk , Virginia (1,800 soldiers)
- Parts of the 3rd US-Amored Cavalry Regiment (1,700 soldiers)

The division combat exercise Straffe Zügel 75 took place from October 12 to 17, 1975 in the Nienburg / Weser , Celle , Bergen and Verden area . Taut reins 75 was part of the “Autumn Forge” series of maneuvers. 12,000 German Army soldiers and 1,800 US Marines took part in the exercise.
procedure
Before the start of the exercise, 1,800 US Marines landed with landing craft in Bremerhaven . The 36th MAU was relocated from Norfolk with the helicopter carrier Guadalcanal to the operations area of Army Group NORTHAG . This was the first time that a US marine unit set foot on European soil after the First World War . This was due to a measure taken by General Haig . The operations of the "aggressor" ROT began with an attack by Panzer Brigade 3 and the reinforced tank reconnaissance battalion 1 from the east against BLUE units along a delay line at Wolfsburg - Wittingen . RED break-ins occurred south of Wittingen and near Gifhorn . This pushed the defending BLUE volumes further west. After that, ROT continued its attack movement to Otze , until BLUE began its counterattack.
