Feldafing lido

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Feldafing lido is a historic public bathing establishment in Feldafing , which is one of the 16 listed outdoor pools in Bavaria today. The lido has remained almost unchanged since its inauguration in 1927 and is unique in its architecture .

location

The Feldafing lido is located in the Feldafing municipality. Immediately to the north of this is the border with the neighboring municipality of Pöcking (district of Possenhofen ).

Emergence

The old bathing establishment in Feldafing , which belonged to the Hotel Strauch, which later became the Hotel Kaiserin Elisabeth, no longer met modern, social requirements. As people had more free time at the beginning of the Weimar Republic and a new attitude towards life was associated with it, outdoor swimming pools became increasingly fashionable in the 1920s . At that time, the community of Feldafing was not planning a mass pool, but a special pool that lived up to its honorary title “Pearl on the Lake” and strengthened its reputation as a tourist and recreational area.

The municipality of Feldafing acquired the building site, which is located at the northern end of Lenné Park, from Haus Wittelsbach in 1914 . The First World War and the inflation of 1923 initially prevented construction from starting, so that this could only take place in 1926. The first plans by the Munich architect Joseph Mayr date back to 1914 and show a wooden structure built into the water on stilts . In 1924, the architect Fritz August Breuhaus made a watercolor showing a design that was not carried out .

In 1926, the Feldafing master builder Engelbert Knittl was commissioned by the community to plan and build a bathing establishment. With the cooperation of the Feldafinger carpenter's workshop Floßmann and the local tradesmen, the first construction phase in the north, the so-called Herrenbad, which could already be used in the same year, took place in 1926. In 1927, the second construction phase in the southern part, the ladies' pool, was completed. The bathroom , which is separated by gender, had a caretaker's house in the middle, which is now used as a restaurant . The caretaker 's house created for the lifeguard served, among other things, as a cash register and laundry dispenser. Some renovation and conversion work was carried out, such as the extension of the apartment for the tenant Lorenz Kalb in 1958, the renovation of the sanitary facilities in 1970 and the expansion of the farm buildings in 1973. In the front area to the lake there were separate lawns for women and men to lie on, although, as can be seen in early pictures, the gender separation was not adhered to, in the middle a roundabout and on the shoreline an area that was filled with sand , which was something very special at the time. The sandy beach is 100 meters long and 50 meters wide. The equipment is very dignified and adapted to the environment. Colorful beach umbrellas, oak and birch provide shade and beautify the picture. A large area on the shallow slope is provided for non-swimmers, two pleasure rafts are anchored here, and swimmers can also use a diving bridge with 2 boards. The opening, which was enthusiastically received from all sides, took place on June 9, 1927 in the presence of the authorities and the press: The result was a pretty lido, happily resolved in its architectural layout, extending over 100 meters and 50 meters deep to the from Forsthaus am See is connected to the promenade. The bathroom itself has 150 cabins and two larger changing rooms, so it can comfortably be used by 300 people at the same time. Since no day tickets are issued (3 hour bathing time), 2-3000 people can be processed on Sundays. The fact that the community had the courage to make these sacrifices must be praised as exemplary, as the expenditure is 80,000 marks, which is certainly a respectable sum for the small Feldafing.

After the visit to the new lido, a reception took place on the summer terrace of the splendid hotel “Kaiserin Elisabeth”, to which the hotelier Georg Kraft had invited. The guests crossed the recently opened Feldafing Golf Club, which was the first golf club in southern Bavaria at the time . On May 20, 1927, the Feldafing municipal council passed an official municipal "bathing order" for the lido, which stipulated rules of conduct, entrance fees, bathing times, laundry rental fees and a dress code.

In 2019, the community of Feldafing Strandbad Feldafing decided together with the Association to promote and maintain a conservation practice rehabilitation .
