The Strjama ( Bulgarian Стряма ) is a left-sided (northern) tributary of the Mariza in central Bulgaria , which runs exclusively in the Plovdiv Oblast .

The 110.1 km long river has its source in the Central Balkan National Park at the summit of Weschen , at 2,198 m above sea level one of the highest mountains in the Balkan Mountains . The next stop is Klissura, 8 km (as the crow flies) to the southeast . The Strjama continues to flow in an easterly direction through the western Rose Valley . At Banya it turns to the south and runs partially parallel to road No. 64. It crosses under the A1 motorway and flows into the Maritsa 15 km east of Plovdiv .
