Stuart Campbell Mayer is a Rear Admiral . Since June 12, 2014, he is commander of the Australian fleet ( English Commander Australian Fleet ) and commander in chief of all combat units and all maritime operations within the Australian Defense Force (ADF).

Career

Mayer joined the Royal Australian Navy in 1984 and was trained on the patrol boat HMAS Gladstone and the frigate HMAS Darwin . This was followed by training in Air Intercept Control and service on board the guided missile frigates HMAS Canberra and HMAS Sydney . On board HMAS Sydney he was Air Intercept Control Officer and Boarding Officer in the Persian Gulf during the Gulf War (1990/91).

In 1993 he began training as a Principal Warfare Officer and completed it in 1994 with distinction. As Operations Officer of the Combined Task Unit , he served at HMAS Adelaide as part of Operation Stabilize (September 16, 1999 - February 23, 2000), as part of the International Armed Forces East Timor (INTERFET). In January 2000, Mayer was promoted to Commander and sent to the United States as the first ADF contact officer to the US Joint Command in Norfolk . After his return in mid-2002, he took command of HMAS Canberra .

In July 2004, he was promoted to captain at sea (Captain) and the post of Chief Staff Officer (Operations) in the Australian Navy Headquarters (MHQ). During this time he was (at the headquarters of the Australian Navy forces english Australian Maritime Deployable ) parked as Commander Task Group 58.1 - Northern Arabian Gulf Maritime Security Operations Commander . After six months in the Gulf, he returned to the MHQ in October 2005. In January 2007 Mayer lectured at the Australian Defense College for the Master of Arts in Strategic Studies . In December 2007, the command of the HMAS Anzac followed until mid-2009, when he was promoted to commodore and commander of the International Stabilization Force (ISF) in East Timor . He held the post, as the first non-member of the army, from October 24, 2009 to February 25, 2010.

Back in Sydney in April 2010, he began his service as Commodore Flotillas and later Commodore Warfare in the fleet headquarters . This was followed by the post of Director General Navy Capability Plans and Engagement with Strategic Naval Command and then Chief of Staff, before Mayer was promoted to Rear Admiral and Commander of the Australian Fleet in June 2014.

Mayer holds a degree from the Center for Defense and Strategic Studies of the Royal Australian Navy Staff College , a Bachelor's degree from the University of New South Wales , an MBA from the University of Southern Queensland , an MA from Deakin University and a degree from the Australian Institute of Company Directors ( GAICD).

He is married to Susanne Mayer and has three sons and a daughter with her. He used to play rugby , but today he still enjoys sailing, kayaking and bushwalking in his free time.
