history

The student housing estate (center left) with Seepark and Flückigersee

The student estate was planned in 1966 by the architects Wolf Irion, Rainer Graf and Wolf Maier as a park-like residential landscape with three- and eight-story structures. In 1989/90, the architect Wolfgang P. Woseipka (at the Freiburg Student Union) added a nine-story building to the existing eleven-story house 24. The new building received four two-room apartments and one four-room apartment on each floor, which has a kitchen-living room with a bay window facing the lake. In the old building, too, the previous single rooms have been combined to form apartments with a bathroom and kitchen. In the course of further densification in 2012, the development by the Amann Burdenski Munkel Architects continued in a harmonious way. Details such as the change from white to normal concrete and the staggered window openings were also adopted for the new precast concrete facades. In 2014, the architectural office for the two houses StuSie 16 + 38 was awarded the “best architects 14” award in the “Residential / multi-family houses” category.

Starting in 2020, the student housing estate will be expanded by around 1200 places. The first phase of construction with three new buildings was largely completed in January 2020. At the end of August another 130 rooms were added to house 28. In order to relieve the Freiburg housing market, the Freiburg Regional Council has funded the construction of three new high-rise apartment buildings with a total of 300 shared apartments and single apartments. By 2025 , 1,416 new residential units are to have been built, while 217 will be lost due to demolition. Furthermore, the area is designated as a development area in the Freiburg 2030 Perspective Plan . Template: future / in 5 yearsTemplate: future / in 5 years

description

View of houses 12 and 16 of the StuSie

Part of the settlement consists of five groups of houses, which consist of two three-story and one eight-story building. The new buildings are not in contrast, but in tradition with the existing buildings. Even if the redensification fits into the existing structure, more modern methods have been used in the construction itself, which, for example, with lower transmission heat losses, are well below the requirements of the savings ordinance.

The complex has single apartments, shared apartments and shared floors, as well as apartments with two and three rooms for student families. There are a total of 22 two- to eleven-storey houses in which facilities relevant to student life such as a bicycle workshop, wood workshop and music rooms are housed. The tallest buildings are community houses 12 and 24, each 40 m.

There are also three Max Kade houses within the settlement , some of which are available to the International Office of the University of Freiburg for foreign exchange students. There are also apartments available for the Max Planck Institute and the International Office in which visiting professors can live with their families.

The settlement is bounded in the northwest by the Flückigersee , and in the southwest it extends to Sundgauallee. It is connected to the city center and the university by tram line 1 .

Trivia

The heart of Freiburg is Betzenhausen,
the Betzenhausen blood, yes that is wine (that is wine).
|: Because what would Freiburg be without Betzenhausen?
And Betzenhausen without our wine? : |

They build runners, they build ruff.
You tear a bit here and there.
But between the Bishop's Cross and Seepark-Brück,
thank God there is a bit of happiness in the dormitory.

Yes, our glasses are never / never empty
and traffic is racing on the big road.
But high on the fifth floor on the balcony,
you can enjoy life and bathe in the sun.
