Studio 2 is an early evening magazine from ORF , which has been broadcast on ORF 2 from Monday to Friday at 5:30 p.m. since January 7, 2019 . At this slot, it replaced the Daheim in Austria magazine broadcast from a mobile studio .

The magazine combines information, service and entertainment. The focus is on various topics such as the latest, society, health , food, garden, culture and music .

Moderation

The show is presented by a pair of moderators alternately on a weekly basis. The usual moderation pairs are Verena Scheitz and Norbert Oberhauser as well as Birgit Fenderl and Martin Ferdiny . Sometimes there may be other combinations of moderators. Jan Matejcek and Verena Pawel are on duty as external moderators .

content

The program is broadcast from a Viennese studio owned by the Interspot production company. The central places of the studio are a living room area with a sitting area and a kitchen block. These include a terrace and a garden; there is also a piano in the studio. In addition to the moderation, the program consists of discussions with studio guests, connections, contributions and musical and culinary presentations.

In every issue there is a competition that the television audience can call for. A spectator is put through and can play. If the answer is correct, the candidate wins a prize (usually leisure vouchers). The game "Word in the Picture" is currently being played. Three images are displayed that show something that can be expressed with a common term. It is a question of guessing this term. Since around spring 2019, the reporter Philipp Jelinek has been conducting an entertaining street survey on a topic that is not very serious for a few issues per week.

For each day of the week there is a program scheme with different categories, which are presented by certain people (mostly experts in the respective subject).

  • Monday: Karl Ploberger ("The Plant Whisperer") gives advice on the subject of gardens and plants (sometimes also on Tuesdays). Yanick Kurzweil is our guest as an expert on social media and topics related to the Internet . In the “Balsam for the Soul” series, experts give tips to help you find your emotional balance. Christoph Stein is invited as an expert for "old and used", shows and describes nostalgic objects. Instead, in the first broadcasts, Steffi Teuchmann and her daughters gave tips on handicrafts.
  • Tuesday: A specialist is invited on a medical topic. Furthermore, cooking is done in the studio kitchen.
  • Wednesday: The pharmacists Mag. Sonja Burghard and Mag. Irina Schwabegger-Wager come to the studio alternately. Christine Reiler provides information about modern medicine and Wolfgang Reichl gives advice on fashion and styling. In addition, ORF culture presenter Teresa Vogl and ORF literature expert Katja Gasser take turns every 14 days. Vogl visits artists and reports on current productions in the field of culture. Gasser presents new books.
  • Thursday: The dog trainer Florian Günther ("Der Hundeflo") advises on how to deal with dogs properly. Georg Holzer, music expert from Radio Wien, reports on news from the music world. In addition, experts on gardening and floristry are invited. Travel expert Hanni Stanek has been presenting a travel destination since April 11, 2019. In the first few programs, Elisabeth Engstler visited people who do voluntary work in the “The Priceless” section.
  • Friday: Marion Nachtwey informs about the society events of the week. Molecular biologist Fritzreiber from the taste laboratory of the Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz provides clear information about the composition of industrial foods in the studio kitchen. In his place, the culinary journalist Katharina Seiser is sometimes a guest with a product knowledge of a certain food.

Overall, the concept of the show is very much based on the magazine Leben Leben , which was broadcast until August 2017 , or based on even earlier magazines.

background

Studio 2 is part of the contour of the channel ORF 2 , which was refreshed in 2019. The red number “2” in the logo of the program, which is displayed colorlessly in the lower right corner of the TV picture, stands for the channel. On the day of the program's debut, January 7th, the motto “We are ORF 2” went on air for the first time. This should give the station a stronger unique selling point within the ORF. The previous program Daheim in Austria was canceled because it could not establish itself well with the audience in its almost one and a half year history and, in contrast to the previous format , it lost seven percent of the market share today . With Studio 2 also younger to be addressed in addition to the traditionally stronger represented in these programs older audience.

Special editions

On January 30, 2019, a special edition was broadcast on the north side of the Alps on the occasion of the heavy snowfall of the previous weeks . Reports were made from the affected areas and discussions were held with those affected and experts.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic , from March 16, 2020, the beginning of the exit restrictions in Austria, to April 9, 2020, in addition to the regular one, another 55-minute edition entitled Studio 2 Extra was held at 4 p.m. instead of Barbara Karlich show broadcast. It was presented by the same moderator couple as the main edition and had the same content. In addition to current information about the pandemic, household tips were shown.
