At home in Austria was a pre-evening magazine broadcast by ORF that was produced from August 21, 2017 to December 21, 2018. It was broadcast Monday through Friday at 5:30 p.m. on ORF 2 and was the follow-up program to the previous magazine Leben . The magazine program Studio 2 has followed on this slot since January 7, 2019 .

Like the breakfast television service Guten Morgen Österreich , which has existed since March 2016 , the program was broadcast from a mobile studio every week from a different federal state and every day from a different municipality (only on Fridays from the same as on Thursdays). Unterwegs in Österreich acted as the overarching name for both programs . Under this heading, the two other daily magazine programs Mittag in Austria and Aktuell in Austria were also included.

In October 2018 it was announced that the show would be replaced by the new Studio 2 format from 7 January 2019 due to poor audience ratings . As before, the program will be broadcast from a fixed TV studio again today, and presented alternately by the moderators Birgit Fenderl and Martin Ferdiny as well as Verena Scheitz and Norbert Oberhauser .

Moderation

At home in Austria , Lukas Schweighofer and Nina Kraft alternated moderation.

There was no fixed assignment of the moderators to certain federal states, as was the case with Guten Morgen Österreich . In Vorarlberg , the only federal state where Schweighofer moderated in the morning during the function at Daheim in Austria , Nina Kraft almost always moderated, while in Carinthia Lukas Schweighofer usually led the show.

As with Guten Morgen Österreich, Eva Pölzl was the main presenter of the show, alternating with Lukas Schweighofer. The allocation of moderators to the federal states was also analogous to that of the morning broadcast, so that one moderator each moderated both programs for a week. Because of this dual activity at both magazines, this was soon changed. Initially, in October 2017, Eva Pölzl or Lukas Schweighofer moderated in some federal states that were not assigned to them, although the other had moderated the morning program on the same day. At the end of October 2017, Nina Kraft, who previously only served as a substitute, took over the moderation from Eva Pölzl, while Pölzl only moderates Guten Morgen Österreich . At the same time Jan Matejcek took over the moderation of Lukas Schweighofer at Guten Morgen Austria, with the exception of Vorarlberg.

In contrast to Good Morning Austria , there were no co-presenters from the respective ORF regional studio . Patrick Budgen sometimes took part in the show in 2017, and Julia Zeidlhofer or Jan Matejcek in 2018 .

concept

The aim of the program was to be closer to the people in the country and to focus more on the individual regions of Austria. The mobile studio stopped in a different state every week. At home in Austria, Monday through Thursday was broadcast from the parish where Good Morning Austria took place on the following day . Usually a different congregation was visited every day, only sometimes a different location within a congregation. Less often, mainly at larger events, the program could be broadcast several times in a row from the same community. Because the studio was moving to another state, it was broadcast again on Friday from the same municipality as on Thursday. The federal capital Vienna was an exception , where broadcasts usually lasted for a week from a certain location, but sometimes from a different location.

In terms of content, there was a topic of the day that was the subject of contributions and discussions in all four On the Road in Austria broadcasts. The magazine consisted of articles about the respective places and regions and reports as well as discussions on various topics, in particular culinary , health , culture , fashion and society. There were always prominent guests as well as musicians and singers. The audience in front of the mobile studio was repeatedly involved in the broadcast.

From March 5, 2018, the program was redesigned with an expansion of information and service as well as the introduction of sections on certain topics:

  • Or in Austria : On Mondays, communication scientist Nana Walzer gave advice on relationship issues. The rubric was discontinued after a few weeks.
  • Pumperlgsund in Austria : On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Christine Reiler reported on the subject of health and gave tips on wellbeing. The column was later called Gesund mit Reiler and was only broadcast on Thursdays.
  • Time travel in Austria : Elisabeth Engstler and Michael Vielhaber showed excerpts from the ORF archive on a specific topic every Friday.
  • This is how Europe eats : From July to December 2018, Elisabeth Engstler was a guest at celebrities or chefs from one EU country each living in Austria. The hosts cooked a traditional dish from their homeland.

The following list contains a chronological overview of the broadcasting locations.

KW = calendar week
Place of broadcast = official municipality name (if the location is more precisely defined, municipality name in brackets) or, in Vienna, always the location
  1. A broadcast from Lech was planned for December 14th and 15th, 2017. Due to the heavy snowfall, the mobile studio had to stay in Zürs.
  2. On December 20, 2017, the broadcast did not begin until 6 p.m. due to the previous live broadcast from Parliament and was therefore shortened.
