Gößl is a district of the municipality Grundlsee in Ausseerland in the Styrian Salzkammergut in the Liezen district and the judicial district of Liezen in Austria.

geography

The Gößlerwand

Gößl is located on the east bank of the Grundlsee in the southern part of the Dead Mountains . The center of the village is located on the northwest side of a ridge between the Toplitz and Grundl lakes at 720 meters above sea level. The Schachen settlements on the north bank and Wienern on the south bank of the lake are adjacent to this.

In the local area the Toplitz - and the Stimitzbach flow into the Grundlsee.

The Gößlerwand, an approximately 180 meter high, almost vertical limestone cliff, rises directly above the village. A climbing garden has been set up in the Gößlerwand . The total height of the wall was first climbed on May 21, 2005 by the brothers Alexander and Thomas Huber ( Huberbuam ) over the Via Gabrielli , which they first climbed.

Gößl can be reached via a road on the north bank of the Grundlsee, which is also used by a bus route. Liner traffic runs across the lake in summer.

economy

Gypsum removal

In local agriculture, dairy farming in particular is practiced on the meadows and pastures.

On the south side of the Grundlsee above Wienern, gypsum raw stone has been mined in the opencast mine since the 1950s , which is transported in an eight-kilometer cable car to Bad Aussee , where a plant produces plasterboard .

Tourism is an essential economic factor , and in many places it has taken the place of agriculture.

tourism

Gößler women's costume in the 19th century

Since the end of the 19th century tourism has also found its way into Gößl. Inns, guest houses and private rooms offer overnight accommodation. As in many places in the Ausseerland, well-known artists came to Gößl. The Viennese painter Johann Matthias Ranftl stayed several times in the mill at Stimitzbach . It now bears his name. The industrialist Konrad Mautner owned a villa in Gößl. Here he pursued his folklore studies, with the songbook Steyerisches Raspelwerk and other works on folk art in the Styrian Salzkammergut. The Konrad-Mautner-Weg now leads from Gößl to the Toplitzsee.

Gößl from the Grundlsee

Nowadays, many day visitors to Gößl go there when they take the route from the boat landing stage at Grundlsee to that at Toplitzsee as part of the Three Lakes Tour (Grundlsee – Toplitzsee– Kammersee ).

Gößl is also a starting point for some hiking routes into the Dead Mountains. In addition to two managed refuges, the Pühringerhütte and the Appelhaus , there are many other destinations such as the summits of the Elm , Salzofen, Rotgschirr , Feuertalberg, Backenstein and Grundlseer Reichenstein as well as the Vorderer and Hinterer Lahngangsee and the Elmsee .

Annually since 2005, with two interruptions in 2016 and 2017 - after the initiator was elected mayor - the "Festival for Art, Culture, Nature and People" called Sprudel, Sprudel and Music takes place in Gößl . At places in the forest, by the lake and also in the village, a variety of artists can be experienced in a “walk-in concert”.

Culture and sights

  • Messkapelle Gößl : While the church buildings generally belong to the church, the Messkapelle Gößl is privately owned by 14 Gößl families. After more than 40 years of unsuccessful applications for the construction of a church, the Goesslers built a small chapel in 1821 at their own expense, which was enlarged in 1833. The wooden structure was replaced by masonry. By entering the vulgar names of the farms of the farmers involved, who, as is well known, always remain connected with the farm, they secured the church as their permanent property.
  • Villa Roth am Grundlsee : on the north bank to the west outside the village.
  • Village judge: Another specialty of Gößl is the office of village judge, which has been preserved since the Middle Ages . Every year the Gößler farmers choose one from their (now small) ranks. In the event of disputes or any points of contention, he invites the other farmers to the Gasthof Veit (built in 1616). Here the problem is discussed jointly and in most cases an out-of-court solution is found. The village judge is also responsible for the organization and implementation of community work in road construction and the like.
