Géraldine Ruckstuhl (born February 24, 1998 in Altbüron ) is a Swiss heptathlete .

Athletic career

Géraldine Ruckstuhl was the U18 World Champion with 6037 points at the U18 World Championships in Cali in 2015 . The following year she competed at the U20 World Championships in javelin and was classified seventh with 53.38 m.

On May 27, 2017 she achieved a personal best in every discipline at the Hypo-Meeting in Götzis : 13.96 s over 100 meter hurdles, 1.77 m in the high jump, 13.89 m in the shot put, 24.80 s over 200 meters . The second day of the competition began with a record in the long jump (5.78 m), after which she set a new Swiss record in the javelin throw with the width of 58.31 m . Thanks to another best time over the 800 meters (2: 16.68 min), Ruckstuhl improved the Swiss record in the heptathlon to 6291 points. This record only lasted a month and a half, however, as Caroline Agnou reached 6330 points on July 14th.

On July 20 and 21, 2017, the Lucerne woman took part in the U20 European Championships in Grosseto , where she fought a duel with the Ukrainian Alina Schuch . She had beaten it twice before, in 2015 in Cali and in May 2017 in Götzis . Two weeks earlier, however, her back chair lost in Tallinn . In Grosseto, Ruckstuhl achieved 13.98 s over 100 meter hurdles and was only slightly above her personal record (13.96 s) despite strong headwinds. She then improved her personal record (1.81 m) before she hit the ball to 13.55 m and ran a new best time (24.74 s) over 200 meters. After the first day, the Swiss was in the lead with 3646 points, ahead of the British Niamh Emerson (3576) and ahead of Alina Schuch (3566). On the second day, Ruckstuhl achieved a long jump of 5.97 m. Schuch was able to take the lead in the heptathlon with 6.33 m. She then hit Ruckstuhl with a javelin throw (54.51 m versus 54.32 m). In the 800 meter run, the Swiss did her best to catch up points and improved her record by four seconds to 2: 12.56 minutes. She secured the silver medal with 6357 points and set a new national record.

On August 5 and 6, 2017, she was allowed to compete at the World Championships in London . In the first discipline, she improved her personal best in the 100 meter hurdles to 13.80 seconds. With 6230 points she finished the heptathlon in 11th place.

In 2018 Ruckstuhl became Swiss indoor champion in high jump and for the second time after 2016 in pentathlon. At the European Championships in Berlin , she finished ninth with 6260 points. At the end of the season, she improved her national record on the Décastar in Talence, France, to 6391 points. The following year she won the U23 European Championships in Gävle with 6274 points and qualified for the World Championships in Doha , where she came in ninth place with 6159 points. She then took part in the javelin throw at the World Military Games in Wuhan and came in fifth with a throw of 49.74 m.
