Friedrichstal is a place north of Karlsruhe , which since January 1st, 1975 together with the three neighboring places Blankenloch , Spöck and Staffort forms the municipality of Stutensee , which has been a major district town since January 1st, 1998 . The Heglach and the Alte Bach flow through the village .

history

Protestant church

Friedrichstal is founded by religious refugees from northern France ( Huguenots , Edict of Fontainebleau ), Belgium and Switzerland. The place arose from 1699 on the cleared Hardtwald with the involvement of parts of the municipality of Spöck. The tobacco seeds brought to their new home and the experience of growing tobacco soon became the economic base of the village and the surrounding Hardt communities. The "Friedrichstaler" variety was cultivated until the 1950s.

The settlement got its name ( Fridericiana Vallis , Friedrichstal) from Margrave Friedrich Magnus von Baden-Durlach , who allowed the settlement and had left the land. The following year, on July 18, 1700, Friedrichstal became an independent municipality. In 1710 Friedrichstal got its own evangelical pastor. However, the Protestant church in the Weinbrenner style was not opened until 1830.

On January 1, 1975 Friedrichstal came to the new community of Stutensee.

Many family names of the original new settlers can still be found in Friedrichstal today: Barié, Borel, Calmez, Gaßmann, Gorenflo, Giraud, Herlan, Hornung, Karle, Lacroix, Mahler , Meyer , Schanz, Schönthal, Siegrist, Sutz and Thibaut .

The Friedrichstalers traditionally lived from growing asparagus and tobacco , but these no longer play a major role today. Part of the former tobacco factory is now used as an artist's studio and sporadic exhibition space, while the majority has been extensively renovated and converted into living space. Still an important economic factor in the village today is the Friedrichstaler mill in the north of the village , located on the Heglach and founded in 1727 .

Since 1982 there has been a partnership with the French town of Saint-Riquier in Picardy , the area from which the founders of Friedrichstal once fled.

Friedrichstal has been connected to the Karlsruhe light rail network since June 24, 2006 .

Friedrich Magnus School

There is a Protestant, a Catholic and a municipal kindergarten in the village. In addition, the Friedrich-Magnus-Schule is located in Friedrichstal, a primary and secondary school with a Werkrealschule. High school education can be obtained in the neighboring town of Blankenloch in the Thomas-Mann-Gymnasium Stutensee .

Sports

The football club FC Germania Friedrichstal and the sports club TV Friedrichstal are based in the village .
