Suicidal Tendencies is the debut album by the American band Suicidal Tendencies . It was released on Frontier Records in July 1983 and was one of the best-selling hardcore albums to date.

Origin and style

Renowned photographer and artist Glen E. Friedman , who worked with underground artists , produced the album. The band gained quite a bit of attention thanks to the video for Institutionalized , which was among the first notable hardcore videos to appear on MTV . The video was also used in the film Repoman . Tom Araya of Slayer made a guest appearance, and Kerry King is briefly visible. The album mostly contained fast hardcore punk - in 1993 it was re-recorded in a much more metal- like sound under the title Still Cyco After All These Years .

reception

Allmusic's Steve Huey called the album "possibly her best". Huey praised Mike Muir's lyrics , who deal with issues such as alienation , depression and non-conformist politics with intelligence and humor. It awarded 4.5 out of five stars and the “AMG Album Pick” award.
