Mike Muir
Mike Muir (born March 14, 1963 in Venice , California ) is an American singer . He is mainly active in the bands Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves .
Background and style
Mike Muir is the younger brother of skateboarder Jim Muir , who rode for the famous Z-Boys team . Mike Muir visited in Santa Monica the College . Around 1982 he co-founded the band Suicidal Tendencies and became their singer and front man. The band contributed to the development of skate punk and initially attracted audiences from the local skater scene. Muir became known for his appearance, to which a blue bandana pulled deep into the face , skater clothing (for example jersey with the number 13 and often the nickname "Cyco Miko" on it, "Cyco" being a short form for "Psycho") and often longer white skater socks belong. He is also known for his mostly quite high singing style, which is exceptionally clear for hardcore punk or crossover . During live performances he often made longer announcements between the songs, in which he also made political statements. He is seen as an opponent of the Parents Music Resource Center , which was co-founded by Tipper Gore, the wife of the Democrat Al Gore .
In 1992 he took part in a "rock-the-vote" campaign for the US presidential election , in which people were to be asked to vote. Muir, who had been invited, said there that he was not going to vote and thus angered the initiators. Muir said it was more important to get a handle on your own life. This statement - to gain personal responsibility or control over one's own life - is also often found in his texts ("So if your life sucks, you suck", "So if your life sucks, you suck", from: Gotta Kill Captain Stupid from The Art of Rebellion ).
"You have to believe in yourself, know what you are doing, why you are doing it - and then really do it."
Mike Muir injured his back on the Resistance Tour in 2003, which subsequently led to complications. Since around 2007 Suicidal Tendencies and Infectious Grooves have been seen more often live again, the latter also on a European tour.
Other Projects
In 1987 Muir worked for an album for the band No Mercy and produced a record for Excel . During his time in the band Suicidal Tendencies he also founded his funk-metal side project Infectious Grooves in 1990 and has released four albums with it to date. After the breakup of Suicidal Tendencies, he released an album in 1995 under his nickname Cyco Miko . In 2001, although Suicidal Tendencies was active again since 1997, another Cyco-Miko album was released. In 2008 he sang When Angels & Serpents Dance of POD
